Dáil Éireann debate -

Vol. 525 No. 5

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Stagg. I call the Deputy to state the matter of which he has given notice.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention: the closure of mainline rail services today because of an industrial dispute involving signalling staff employed by Irish Rail and the need for renewed efforts to solve the dispute having regard to the likely inconvenience for rail users and the disruption to industry that will follow if the dispute is not resolved and action is allowed to escalate.

Having considered the matter fully, the Ceann Comhairle does not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31, and, therefore, cannot grant leave to move the motion.
