Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Mildred Fox

Question:

357 Miss Fox asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide extra gardaí in the Blessington area, in view of the increase in break-ins in the Manor Kilbride-Lacken areas. [25724/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities which are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that the current personnel strength of Blessington Garda station is 14, all ranks.

I am also informed that Garda management is satisfied that the current Garda strength of Blessington station is adequate to meet the policing needs of the area. However, the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available, the needs of Blessington will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that provisional local crime figures show that there has been a decrease in break-ins in the Manor Kilbride-Lacken areas this year to date compared with the period January-December 1999.
