Written Answers. - Archaeological Sites.

Billy Timmins

Question:

138 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to develop the Brusselstown site, Glen of Immal, County Wicklow; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25610/00]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera)

This site is not in my care and consequently my Department is not in a position to undertake any works there. My Department is not aware at this stage of any proposed works on the site. The archaeological sites at Brusselstown are recorded monuments and as such have legal protection under the National Monuments Acts, 1930-94. In accordance with this legislation the owner/occupier of the monuments is legally required to give my Department two months notice in writing of any proposed works that may impact on the monument.
