Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Jack Wall

Question:

106 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí employed full-time on immigration or asylum matters; the estimate of the total number of Garda labour hours taken up on asylum and immigration matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25781/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are 158 members of the Garda Síochána, all ranks, employed full-time on immigration or asylum matters.

I am also informed that all members of the Garda Síochána have a responsibility, inter alia, to deal with immigration or asylum matters as they arise and it is, therefore, not possible to calculate the number of hours taken up by these matters.
