Question:271 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children when the 25 accident and emergency consultant and 15 anaesthetist posts will be in place as part of the drive to deal with the crisis in the hospitals. [26953/00]
Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.
I have made arrangements to accelerate the recruitment of these additional posts. Having regard to the necessary procedures and timeframe associated with the completion of the normal approval-recruitment process for consultant medical staff, I have asked Comhairle na nOspideal, one of whose functions is to regulate appointments of consultant medical staff and to specify qualifications for such appointments, to approve immediately the filling of the posts on a temporary basis. I am assured that this matter will be progressed at the next Comhairle na nOspideal meeting on 24 November 2000.
