Officials from my Department meet regularly with representatives from the Irish College of General Practitioners to discuss issues relating to general practice in Ireland A meeting with the college took place as recently as Wednesday, 15 November 2000, at which particular attention was paid to the future development of general practice.
I have recently received the wide-ranging review of general practitioner services undertaken by the chief executive officers of the health boards. When I have considered the review, it is my intention to initiate comprehensive discussions with relevant representative organisations, including the Irish College of General Practitioners, on the future development of general practice. In that context, the consultations will have regard to the joint ICGP-IMO paper on general practice development.
