Vol. 526 No. 4

Written Answers. - Development Agencies' Grants.

Phil Hogan

Question:

79 Mr. Hogan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the policy of her Department in respect of recoupment of grants paid by development agencies where the conditions laid down are not fulfilled or where the industry relocates outside the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26645/00]

The administration of grants is a statutory function of the development agencies – IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Shannon Development – and is not one in which I have a direct role.

Grants paid to companies by the development agencies are subject to the conditions set out in legal agreements between the relevant agencies and the enterprises concerned. Where appropriate, they provide for the repayment of all or part of the grant if the conditions are not met. Where necessary, legal proceedings are taken to enforce the repayment of grants.
