Vol. 526 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

161 Mr. McGinley asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the key strategies undertaken by her Department to encourage development and employment in specific geographic locations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26657/00]

The overall strategy to encourage development and employment is focused on the promotion of Ireland as a location for foreign direct investment and the continuing development of the indigenous sector. Within this strategy, there is a further focus on the BMW and Objective One in transition regions. IDA Ireland, for its part, plans to deliver half of all new "green field" foreign direct investment jobs into the Objective One regions in the coming years.

Enterprise Ireland and Shannon Development will also focus on improving the business environment in the regions and the further development of existing businesses, encouraging new start-ups and identifying new opportunities for business. The agencies will differentiate levels of support in line with State aids regulations to take account of the differing development needs of the regions.
