Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

340 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when one parent family allowance payments will be made in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27806/00]

The person concerned applied for one-parent family payment in October 1998. The claim was refused on the basis that she had not made sufficient efforts to seek maintenance from her spouse. Following the submission of further information from the person concerned the case was returned to a local officer of my Department for further investigation. The local officer's enquiries are currently ongoing. On completion of the necessary enquiries a decision will be made and the person concerned will be notified of the outcome without delay.

Question:

341 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when one parent family allowance payments will be made in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27807/00]

The person concerned is currently in receipt of a one-parent family payment of £58.70 per week in respect of herself and one child.

Her continuing entitlement to this payment was investigated by a local officer of my Department who requested her to forward documentation in relation to maintenance payments received and current rent payable. The deciding officer who is reviewing her entitlement extended the deadline for submission of this information to 5 December next at which stage a decision will be made and she will be notified of the outcome.

A decision on her continuing entitlement will be given shortly in the light of her response or her failure to respond, as appropriate, and she will be notified of the outcome.

Question No. 342 taken with Question No. 327.
