Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Millennium Projects.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

124 Mr. Sheehan asked the Taoiseach when a millennium grant of £70,000 will be paid to Allihies Parish Co-Operative Society in County Cork for the creation of an Allihies mine museum. [27429/00]

The Government, on the recommendation of the National Millennium Committee, approved a millennium award of up to £70,000 towards the cost of the Allihies mine museum project.

In line with standard Government accounting procedures, payment of millennium awards are made on the basis of certified expenditure. On 21 November 2000 the Millennium Office received a submission from Allihies Parish Co-operative Society enclosing invoices totalling £15,050.73 in respect of expenditure on the project. This request is currently being processed in my Department with a view to its payment as the first instalment of the millennium award by the end of the week.
