Vol. 527 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Schemes.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

110 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, in relation to public sector pensioners, he will confirm that the 1% pension increase arising from the final phase of Partnership 2000 has been paid to all those who are entitled to same with particular reference to retired teachers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27880/00]

Responsibility for vocational teachers' pensions is a matter for the Minister for Education and Science. While local authorities pay the pensions of former vocational teachers, they may only do so on receipt of the necessary authorisation from vocational education committees. The sanction of the final phase pay increase to teachers under Partnership 2000 would have been a matter for the Minister for Education and Science.

The payment of pensions and increases in pensions to or in respect of retired local authority staff is a matter for each local authority. In March 2000, my Department authorised local authorities to apply the 1% pay increase due under the final phase of Partnership 2000 to the pensions of retired local authority personnel.
