Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Property Acquisition.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

130 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a request from a group (details supplied) regarding the acquisition of 12 acres of land at Murphy's Barracks, Ballincollig, County Cork, over and above the 15% to be provided for local usage; his views on this application; when he will make a decision on the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28577/00]

My Department received a request from the group concerned in August of this year, seeking 20 acres at the former Murphy Barracks, Ballincollig, County Cork. That request was received after the completion of an integrated action area plan which sets out a blueprint for the future development of the barracks lands. The integrated action area plan was submitted to Cork County Council in April 2000, in the context of an amendment to the Cork County development plan. The integrated plan provides for a wide range of community, amenity and commercial uses for the former barracks, the development of which will be critical in the future overall development of the town of Ballincollig.

An integral element of the formulation of the integrated plan was a comprehensive public consultation process, whereby all interested parties were invited by the consultants involved to make written and oral submissions in relation to the future development of the Murphy barracks' lands. The group concerned did not make a submission.

The integrated action area plan is the subject of ongoing discussions between the county council and my Department.

I expect to be in a position to make decisions on the disposal of this property early in the new year.
