Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

205 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether the scheme which provides for tax relief on certain bloodstock undertakings is in need of re-evaluation; and if he will consider the abolition of this scheme. [28520/00]

I consider that this scheme is a worthwhile one which has assisted very considerably in creating employment in the bloodstock industry in various parts of rural Ireland where jobs are needed. The Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development estimates that there are approximately 25,000 employed in the equine industry as a whole. For these reasons, I do not propose to abolish this worthwhile scheme.
