Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Louis J. Belton

Question:

337 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the number of gardaí stationed at Ballymahon, County Longford will be increased. [28526/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities which are responsible for the detailed allocation of gardaí to individual areas that the personnel strength, all ranks, of Ballymahon Garda station as at 1 December 1998, 1999 and 2000 was as follows:

Year

Strength

1/12/1998

3

1/12/1999

2

1/12/2000

3

I am also informed that Garda management is satisfied that the present Garda personnel strength at Ballymahon is adequate in meeting the current policing needs of the area. The situation will, however, be kept under review and when additional Garda personnel next become available, the needs of Ballymahon will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
