Written Answers. - Road Traffic Legislation.

Alan Shatter

Question:

351 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the aspects of primary and secondary road traffic legislation to which gardaí will pay particular attention at road blocks during the road safety campaign this Christmas. [28729/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that where breaches of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended, come to the attention of the Garda at checkpoints this Christmas appropriate action, including prosecution, and will be taken. I understand that the main areas which will be targeted by the Garda will be drink driving offences, speeding offences and seat belt offences.
