Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

361 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that sufficient funding is made available to an organisation (details supplied) in County Westmeath to enable the organisation to address the issue of the salary of one of its employees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28175/00]

The individual to whom the Deputy refers is an employee of the organisation in question. The Labour Court accepted this in its decision in 1996. The question of the individual's remuneration is, therefore, a matter for the employer.

The funding provided by my Department for the organisation referred to by the Deputy is by way of grant-in-aid assistance. This grant-in-aid accounted for approximately 3% of the organisation's total income in 1998, the most recent year for which audited accounts are available. The individual's salary level would, therefore, have to be addressed by the employing organisation within its overall income situation, its range of activities and the individual's involvement with them.
