Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

397 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the basis on which his Department is refusing to recognise the qualifications of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford which are certified by the United Kingdom Department of Education and Employment as meeting the terms of Council Directive 89/48/EU required for professional recognition for teaching purposes throughout the European Union; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28535/00]

My Department has no record of any written application for recognition as a primary school teacher from the person referred to by the Deputy. However, I understand from my officials in the primary administration section in Athlone that, in a recent telephone conversation, she has indicated that she will be making such an application in the near future. On receipt of such an application, including the required supporting documentation, an assessment of whether her qualifications entitle her to recognition as a primary school teacher will be made.

Question No. 398 taken with Question No. 396.
