52 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if a tissue bank has been established for material from clinical cases of BSE and depopulated animals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28457/00]
My Department currently retains brain tissue from all BSE suspect animals in the central veterinary control laboratory in Abbotstown. In addition, my Department has recently begun to retain and freeze the entire carcases of all BSE animals. These may be used for research purposes at some future date.
