Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Centre for the Visually Impaired.

Richard Bruton

Question:

172 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the pre-school for visually impaired children at St. Joseph's Drumcondra, Dublin 9; and if he would make funding available to support this facility. [28810/00]

I am aware of the issue to which the Deputy refers.

Proposals for the development of pre-school provision for children with visual impairment are included in the recommendations put forward by the planning group which was established to examine a proposal for a national centre for the visually impaired at Drumcondra.

The planning group's report puts forward a comprehensive range of very significant proposals in relation to provision for the visually impaired. These are currently being examined in my Department and decisions will be taken in the context of this examination.
