Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Ivan Yates

Question:

50 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Defence if he will indicate his recruitment strategy to recruit doctors and dentists to the Defence Forces in order to make up for the current shortfall. [28633/00]

Following consultations with various interested parties including the representative association, arrangements for the recruitment of doctors for the medical corps have been finalised. The military authorities intend placing advertisements for medical officers in the national and medical press in the week commencing 11 December 2000.

It is proposed to advertise for dental officers to fill the two current vacancies as soon as dental surgery attendants can be trained or recruited to assist the respective dental officer appointment. I understand that a dental surgery attendant and a dental hygienist are currently in training which will be completed by mid-2001.

Questions Nos. 51 and 52 taken with Question No. 41.
