Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

87 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to an extension for a pier (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28899/00]

The pier in question is owned by Donegal County Council and its repair and maintenance is the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

Funding of £78,518 was provided to Donegal County Council by my Department in 1999 towards the provision of a slipway at the location in question, and further funding of £55,309 was provided in the current year to complete this project.

My Department has also approved funding of £52,500 for a site investigation in connection with possible pier and breakwater developments at this location, and I understand from the county council that this investigation will be completed by the end of the year. The question of funding for further works at this location will be considered, in light of the outcome of this investigation, in the drawing up of fishery harbour development programmes for future years.
