The national health promotion strategy 2000-2005 published in July this year sets out a broad policy framework for the development of health promotion. The strategy contains a number of strategic aims and objectives and calls for the development of a national plan for men's health. It is hoped to commence work on this plan in association with the relevant stakeholders as soon as possible. In the meantime, one of the key objectives of the strategy is to facilitate the development and implementation of a range of health promotion initiatives aimed at heightening awareness about the preventable nature of some diseases, including cancer, among the population as a whole.
