Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Food Industry.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

129 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the food quality review group will report; the way in which his Department will ensure greater coherence under food quality schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29101/00]

A group comprising representatives of relevant interest groups was established in February last to review schemes currently in operation in the light of the future requirements of consumers and the food industry, to examine the accreditation procedures applying to each scheme and to make appropriate recommendations.

I understand that the group has completed its deliberations and I expect to have its report in the near future. On receipt of the report and having examined the group's recommendations, I will decide what action is appropriate.
