Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

143 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if recent advertising has secured any alternative sites for the new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if a preferred site has now been chosen; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29185/00]

Following recent newspaper advertisements a further potentially suitable site was identified. The Commissioners of Public Works are awaiting an indication from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform as to the suitability of this site from the Garda authorities' viewpoint.

As I indicated in response to previous questions another site in the vicinity of Leixlip RC Church is also being considered. The Commissioners of Public Works are awaiting information sought from the vendor of that site in order to establish if it is suitable.

If both sites prove to be suitable the commissioners will select the preferred location in consultation with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Garda.

The acquisition of a site for a Garda station in Leixlip is being accorded top priority and a suitable site will be purchased at the earliest possible date.
