Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

143 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the long-term plans he has for the disposal of meat and bonemeal ingredients whose use has now been banned by the EU; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29503/00]

With effect from 1 January 2001, it will be necessary to store meat and bonemeal produced within this country in compliance with the provisions of the temporary EU-wide ban on the feeding of such material to farmed animals. At present my Department is looking at all means of disposal or non-feed usage of this material. The options being examined include the possible use of incineration.
