178 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons in the Civil Service who have taken early retirement from their posts in each of the years 1997, 1998, 1999 and to date in 2000; and the grade categories into which the above officials fall. [29518/00]
The number of civil servants who retired before attaining maximum retiring age in each of the years in question is as follows: 1997, 203; 1998, 206; 1999, 211; 2000 (to date), 219.
Categorisation by grade at retirement is not readily available for inclusion in the reply; however, I will forward it separately to the Deputy when it has been compiled.
