Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

324 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an audit has been carried out to determine the availability of lands for housing and industrial use in the various local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29826/00]

It is a matter for individual planning authorities to ensure that sufficient land is zoned in their development plans for housing, industrial and other uses.

Details of the first national inventory of zoned residential serviced land, based on returns from individual local authorities setting out the position at end December 1999, were published by my Department on 6 June 2000. The results of this exercise show that the position in relation to the stock of serviced residential building land is encouraging and is set to improve significantly going forward. The full survey results are available in the Oireachtas Library. The latest survey results, based on the end June 2000 position, are currently being finalised and will be published shortly in my Department's September 2000 housing statistics bulletin.

The information requested in relation to the availability of land for industrial uses in local authority areas is not available in my Department.
