Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Programme.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

379 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the criteria he will use to determine the successful application under the swimming pool programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29568/00]

In deciding which applications are to be funded under the swimming pool programme, my Department gives consideration to such matters as the need for a swimming pool in an area, suitability of the proposed site, future viability of the project, particularly in relation to operational and maintenance issues, construction and operating standards of existing facilities, satisfactory financial plan and the need to achieve an equitable geographical spread of funds.

Question:

380 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, in view of the large number of applications for funding under the swimming pool programme, he will provide additional funds to meet the demand; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29569/00]

There is an amount of £45 million available for the swimming pool programme 2000-2002, which represents a substantial increase over the £3 million per annum previously provided for pools. I have no current plans to seek additional funding.
