391 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will direct that a matter concerning a classroom assistant (details supplied) will be addressed without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29286/00]
My Department has sanctioned a part-time special needs assistant to help the school in meeting the needs of three special needs pupils, including the pupil referred to by the Deputy. This part-time post was sanctioned on 26 September 2000.
I have asked my Department's inspectorate to review the case of the child in question. When this review is completed, officials in my Department will be in touch with the school authorities and the child's parents.
The pupil is also on the caseload of the resource teacher sanctioned to the school.
My Department has also sanctioned a grant of £1,500 toward the cost of purchasing computer equipment for this pupil in question.
