87 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources his views on the way in which conditions and standards for fishermen can be improved in order to encourage new entrants into the industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29246/00]
I agree with the Deputy that improvement of the conditions and standards for fishermen is critical to encourage new entrants into the fishing industry.
The task force on training and employment in the seafood sector is finalising a major report on all the key factors, including working conditions, impacting on the creation and maintenance of employment in the sector. I expect to receive this report shortly which will assist the development of cohesive strategies to make the sector more competitive in the labour market.
