Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Question:

166 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the supports he will give for the restoration of water pipes to low-income private households; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30094/00]

Grants are available from the local authorities for the provision or improvement of water supplies to houses where the quality or quantity of the existing supply is deficient. In addition, there are a number of targeted options currently available to assist especially vulnerable groups such as lower income households and elderly persons to secure necessary improvement works to their houses. These include the local authority house improvement loan scheme, the disabled persons and essential repairs grant schemes, under which the maximum grants available were substantially increased in the recent Budget, the scheme of improvement works in lieu of local authority housing and the scheme of special housing aid for the elderly.
