Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Salary Payments.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

168 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when county councillors and other elected representatives will receive the payments which they believed would be forthcoming after the 1999 local elections; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30097/00]

The Local Government Bill, 2000, includes provision for the introduction of a salary and pension to elected members of local authorities by way of regulations, following enactment of the Bill. Such regulations will require the consent of the Minister for Finance.

The Bill is currently awaiting second stage in the Dáil and I expect it to be taken early in the next session.
