Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

111 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the plans he has to raise the pension age; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30295/00]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the retirement age of civil and public servants under their occupational pension schemes.

The issue of retirement age was one of a wide range of issues examined by the Commission on Public Service Pensions. I have recently received the commission's final report and I am making arrangements for its publication. The Government intends to make formal decisions on the commission's recommendations – including any relating to retirement age – once it has had an opportunity to consider the report in detail.
