Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

168 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total expenditure on the provision of local authority housing for each of the years 1997, 1998 and 1999; the estimated expenditure for 2000; the total number of dwellings provided in each of those years; and the average cost for the provision of a unit of local authority housing in each of those years. [30202/00]

The total capital expenditure on the local authority housing programme, which is funded by a combination of Exchequer capital grants and local authority internal capital receipts, was £185 million in 1997, £205 million in 1998 and £244 million in 1999. Expenditure in 2000 is estimated at £324 million.

The estimated average all-in-cost, which includes site costs, of providing a local authority house was £58,200 in 1997, £64,800 in 1998, £80,800 in 1999 and £90,000 in 2000.

The total number of dwellings completed-acquired for each of the years 1997 to 1999 is published in my Department's annual housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The number of house completions for this year is expected to be in excess of last year's total of 3,700 and possibly up to 4,000 units.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

169 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the local authorities which have submitted for his approval, their four year housing programme 2000-2003; the four year programmes which he has approved to date; and the number of housing units so approved. [30203/00]

Each local authority has been notified of their approved allocations of house starts for the period 2000-2003. In addition, my Department recently requested specific details from local authorities of their local authority housing programmes for 2001.
