Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

220 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if any recent surveys have been undertaken in respect of Connolly's Folly, Maynooth, County Kildare with particular reference to the need to check structural deteriorations; her plans in respect of same; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30346/00]

A report on the history and condition of the folly was commissioned in 1998, and the condition of the folly is monitored on an ongoing basis. The architectural advice available to my Department is that the folly is not under immediate threat.

The position in relation to the folly remains unchanged from that outlined in response to a series of similar parliamentary questions on this issue, the most recent of which was answered by me on 7 December last. The priority for Castletown continues to be the restoration of the house itself together with the provision of visitor facilities and works to the grounds and ancillary buildings surrounding the House.

Question No. 221 taken with Question No. 41.
