Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Michael Creed

Question:

236 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason his Department will not support a proposal for a new swimming pool (details supplied) in County Cork; and if his Department will reconsider the question of financial support for the project. [30112/00]

Following a detailed examination of a proposal for a new swimming pool in County Cork, my Department has informed Cork County Council that it will not support the proposal. The reasons for this decision were outlined in detail to the council last month. Among the reasons for this decision are the fact that there is insufficient local funding in place and the documentation submitted is out of date and does not take account of the fact that the pool in Mallow was refurbished since the feasibility study was prepared.

Further consideration will not be given to the current proposal in respect of the project. However, if Cork County Council wish to proceed with this project, they may submit a revised updated proposal to the Department when the programme is re-opened early in 2001.
