Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

194 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if funding will be made available to develop Adams Quay, Kinsale, County Cork, as a fish landing quay with an ice plant. [1648/01]

Kinsale Harbour Commissioners have put forward a plan for the development of Adams Quay, Kinsale, as a fish landing quay. Officials from my Department recently met with a delegation of commissioners. The harbour commissioners undertook to provide a report on fishing activity in the harbour and to give consideration to pursuing the matter of a foreshore licence-lease for the Adams Quay development. In addition, the commissioners undertook to work with the Department and Cork County Council to progress matters regarding the future management of the harbour.

The scope for funding for the development of fish landing facilities at Adam's Quay, Kinsale, will be kept under review by my Department in the context of available resources under the multiannual fishery harbour capital programme.

Questions Nos. 195 and 196 answered with Question No. 189.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

197 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to an extension of a pier (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1690/01]

The pier in question is owned by Donegal County Council and its repair and maintenance are the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance. Funding of £78,518 was provided for Donegal County Council by my Department in 1999 towards the provision of a slipway at the location in question, and further funding of £55,309 was provided in 2000 to complete this project. My Department also approved funding of £52,500 for a site investigation in connection with possible pier and breakwater developments at this location, and I understand from the county council that this investigation is now complete. The county council has submitted an application for further funding for pier improvements and this will be considered in the light of the outcome of the site investigation and available funding in the context of the multiannual fishery harbour development programmes.
