Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Electronic Government.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

327 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Defence his plans for the development and encouragement of e-government in 2001, and the amount of money included in his Department's Estimate for this purpose in 2001. [1562/01]

My Department is completing its e-government strategy and has allocated significant resources to maximise public service delivery and improve customer service through the use of modern ICTs (information and communication technologies). The Department of Defence is actively involved in the central Government initiatives in relation to e-procurement and e-recruitment and is pursuing e-business opportunities within the Department and with external agencies and suppliers of goods and services. The Department will continue to promote awareness of the information society through ongoing consultation with branch managers and users of its services. A number of information seminars on the subject have been conducted for staff of the Department. It is proposed to commit approximately £140,000 in 2001 on e-government projects.
