Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

1140 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has completed his assessment of the need of a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5 for a classroom assistant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30531/00]

A member of my Department's inspectorate visited the school in question recently to assess its need for classroom assistant support. As soon as the inspector's report is received, my Department will be in contact with the school authorities in relation to this matter.

Tony Gregory

Question:

1141 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if staff levels can be retained at the Educate Together school at Henrietta Street, Dublin 7, during the current year due to the projected increase in pupils for the coming school year. [30532/00]

The current staffing of this school is a principal and two mainstream class teachers. Two teaching posts were granted provisionally to the school for the 2000-01 school year, based on a projected enrolment of 56 for September 2000.

Unfortunately, the school's actual enrolment at 30 September 2000 was only 44 which is insufficient for the retention of the second mainstream class teacher in the current school year. The teacher will shortly be placed on the multi-denominational panel for redeployment. The staffing of the school for the 2001-02 school year cannot be determined until the new staffing schedule is finalised.
