Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Perry

Question:

1151 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 1122 of 3 October 2000 concerning the rerouting of a bus, he has yet finalised the review; if not, the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1093/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the request for a rerouting of the service in question has been approved and the transport liaison officer has been informed of the position.

Question:

1152 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 1121 of 3 October 2000 concerning school transport for a family (details supplied) in County Sligo, he has yet finalised the review; if not, the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1094/01]

The question of a change of pick-up point for the family in question has been reviewed. The vehicle that operates the service in question is a 26-seater medium sized bus. The road to the family home is narrow, overgrown with hanging branches and briars and does not have a suitable turning point. The road in its current condition would not be suitable for the vehicle to drive along.

However, the family in question is not eligible for free transport to the school attended as it is not their appropriate school. They are availing of concessionary fare-paying facilities. In the circumstances, it would not be open to my Department to extend the service for pupils who are not fully eligible for transport.
