Vol. 530 No. 1

Written Answers. - Organised Crime.

Seán Ryan

Question:

70 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there are any plans to use the Criminal Assets Bureau against paramilitary organisations having regard to strong evidence of the involvement of paramilitary organisations in organised crime; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3196/01]

Sections 4 and 5 of the Criminal Assets Bureau Act, 1996, set out the objectives and functions of the Criminal Assets Bureau. It is not the policy of the bureau, nor would it be appropriate for me, to comment on any particular investigation which might be undertaken by the bureau.
