Vol. 530 No. 2

Written Answers. - Marine Institute.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

19 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress being made by the sub-committee overseeing the relocation of the Marine Institute to Galway; the discussions there have been with staff or union representatives; the total estimated cost of the relocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3354/01]

Discussions on the relocation of the Marine Institute in the form of the sub-committee of the departmental council have been ongoing for some months. The sub-committee comprises staff, unions and management. This process of dialogue has been undertaken throughout in line with the principles of partnership and free and open exchange. There are a number of fundamental issues for resolution which require me to consult with my colleague, the Minister for Finance, and other Government colleagues. Pending the outcome of these consultations, I am not in a position to elaborate further at this time. I will brief the House on developments in due course.
