Vol. 530 No. 3

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

197 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the financial assistance available to those people who are too young to qualify for essential repairs grant; the assistance available to those not disabled to qualify for disabled persons grant and who due to financial constraints are unable to carry out essential repairs to their home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3536/01]

There are no grants generally available from my Department for the carrying out of house improvement works.

However, there are a number of targeted options currently available to assist vulnerable groups, including lower income households, to secure necessary improvement works to their houses. For those who do not qualify for assistance under the disabled persons and essential repairs grant scheme they may qualify to have works carried out under the scheme of improvement works in lieu of local authority housing. Alternatively, the local authority may be able to provide a house improvement loan. Full details on these options, including application procedures, can be obtained by contacting the relevant local authority.
