Vol. 530 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Tony Gregory

Question:

241 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request a report from the Garda authorities outlining the reason parking restrictions are not enforced at locations (details supplied) in Dublin 3; and if the matter will now be addressed. [3630/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the following traffic restrictions currently apply to the locations referred to by the Deputy: Clonliffe Avenue/Ballybough Road junction – a clearway is in operation from 16.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs. Double yellow lines extend from Ballybough Road along Clonliffe Avenue; O'Sullivan Avenue/Ballybough Road junction – a clearway is in operation from 16.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs. Double yellow lines extend from Ballybough Road to the mouth of this junction; and Kings Avenue/Ballybough Road junction – a clearway is in operation from 16.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs.

With regard to enforcement, I am informed by the Garda authorities that Ballybough Road is one of the north central arterial routes under Operation Artery. The route is patrolled regularly by members of the divisional traffic unit and any parking infringements are dealt with immediately.
I understand that the Garda authorities consider that, with the exception of King's Avenue/Ballybough Road, the locations referred to are adequately marked with double yellow lines. Perhaps the Deputy would raise the matter with Dublin Corporation in order to have similar restrictions placed at the entrance to King's Avenue. In the meantime, I understand that any vehicle found parked within five metres of the junction will be dealt with appropriately.
