Vol. 530 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John McGuinness

Question:

274 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 141 of 29 November 2000, the inspectors' report is now available; if so, if his Department has been in contact with the school authorities; and if he will now give a comprehensive answer to the original parliamentary question on this matter. [3596/01]

My Department's inspectorate has furnished a report on the pupil in question.

Based on the inspectorate's report, a second full-time special needs assistant post has recently been sanctioned by my Department to cater for the needs of the pupil in question and other special needs pupils attending the same class. In addition, arrangements are being made for an educational psychologist from the national educational psychological service to meet with the clinical psychologist who has assessed the child in question, in order to review the child's special educational needs and ensure that any additional supports, which are required, are put in place.
