277 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to delays in payment of an allowance for a post of responsibility for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9; and if he will take steps to resolve this problem. [3620/01]

Following a comprehensive review of the self-financing, part-time adult education programme in second level schools by management and teacher representatives and my Department, agreement has recently been reached on an improved post of responsibility structure for this programme.

A circular letter – 46/00 – outlining the new structures, issued to community and comprehensive schools last November. Detailed procedures are now being finalised, in consultation with school management authorities, to enable my Department and schools to implement the improved structures without delay.

The revised scheme provides for the backdating of any post of responsibility allowances due to individual teachers.
