Vol. 530 No. 3

Written Answers. - Industrial Disputes.

Paul McGrath

Question:

294 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if employees within his Department were on a work-to-rule for some time; the duration of this industrial dispute; the number of employees involved; if this work-to-rule involved the failure of these employees to do certain duties and also involved a go slow on other duties; and if, for the duration of this dispute, those employees received their full salary entitlements. [3938/01]

Members of the Public Service Executive Union in my Department were engaged in limited industrial action between 17 January 2000 and 28 April 2000 in pursuit of a staffing claim. The dispute involved approximately 300 staff in the executive officer and higher executive officer grades. Twenty-seven psychologists in my Department, represented by IMPACT, were engaged in limited industrial action between 1 September 2000 and 17 November 2000.

During the period of these industrial disputes, the staff involved continued to perform their core duties and consequently, the withdrawal or reduction of salary did not arise in the particular circumstances.
