Vol. 530 No. 3

Written Answers. - Compensation Payments.

John Perry

Question:

108 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, in light of the court order imposed on a person (details supplied) in County Sligo he will outline the compensation he will receive; when the stay of order imposed will be lifted to allow him to recommence farming; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3421/01]

Some of the issues raised in this question relate to court proceedings. The position is that the courts are independent in the exercise of their judicial functions. It is not open to me to comment on or intervene in any way in the conduct or decision in any given court case. Although my Department by processing relevant items of documentation etc. has facilitated, as appropriate, the individual concerned in disposing of cattle, I cannot see how an issue of compensation would arise in this case.
