Vol. 530 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Books.

Jack Wall

Question:

184 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason his Department is specifying particular science books for first year science students where the books are unavailable for purchase; if he will have investigations made into the problems in relation to the availability of a book (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4192/01]

My Department does not specify particular textbooks or recommend textbooks for use in schools. The textbook recommended for use in a particular class is a matter for the class teacher in the first instance and, in a more general sense, for the school management. However, my Department has been informed by the publishers that the book in question is being reprinted and will be available in May 2001.
