Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - General Register Office.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

222 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason his Department does not have a long birth certificate for a person (details supplied) who has held a passport and was given a short birth certificate on 11 February 1973. [4509/01]

The administration of the registration system is a matter for An tArd Cláraitheoir, the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and for local registrars who operate under his general direction.

I have had inquiries made with An tArd Cláraitheoir and he has informed me that there is no record in the General Register Office of an application for a birth certificate from the person referred to by the Deputy. The superintendent registrar's office, which is located in the same building, has no record of any such application having been made by post to that office. However, it is possible that a personal application was made to the superintendent registrar's office.

The birth entry has been located by the General Register Office and a long form birth certificate can be obtained by contacting that office and paying the appropriate fee.
